Wigtown’s Wetland Camera
6th May 2005
Following the success of the Wigtown Osprey camera, Dumfries and Galloway Council approached Outersight to install a new camera overlooking the wetlands area adjacent to Wigtown Harbour.
To get the best view, a 6 metre mast was installed near the existing hide, and the camera and digital microwave transmitter was installed at the top of the mast. The camera is remote controlled by visitors to the County Buildings, and can view a complete 360 degrees. Bird calls can also be heard through a sensitive microphone located further into the wetlands.
The system uses the lastest in digital microwave transmission to ensure that a crystal clear image is transmitted back to the Plasma screen at the County Building.
The camera is powered from the mains via a 800 metre long low voltage cable that runs around the perimeter fence. This does away with the need for solar panels or wind generators, which would spoil the natural look of the area.
